ABOVE: Bennetts Quarry at Buffalo, New York is a classic locality. Around 1900, this quarry yielded hundreds of specimens, especially of the charac- teristic Eurypterus lacustris, many of which wound up in the collections of the Buffalo Museum of Science (and through ex- change, to museums around the world).

AT LEFT: The author, examining thousands of slabs of waterlime in search of eurypterid remains. Redis- covering this classic locality was a joy, but it took a lot of frustrating collecting to find many interesting specimens. The wall of the quarry is mostly Onon- daga Limestone, of Devonian Age.  The lowest level in the quarry exhibits the uppermost portion of the Scajaquada Formation.

Here, I am, pryijg up great slabs of the eurypterid-bearing waterlime.  It is truely amazing how much rock one has to work to get just a few specimens of any- thing from this very resistant rock. Many fascinating speci- mens were collect- ed during this period of excavation.  Today, this locality is still, just a sewer--how tradjic........During storms, all the filth of the city streets is di- rected to this site. It is a wonder that any eurypterid specimen is still to be collected.
