Chasing Ice Volcanoes 4
Samuel J. Ciurca, Jr., Rochester, New York
February 27, 2005
Quite a day, but not active volcanoes. Nevertheless, a series of interesting photographs were made along the lake shore west of Rochester, New York. At left is a moody sky with a breached, broken ice volcano on the sheet of ice that extends out into Lake Ontario. Note the floating white ice in the background.  In the foreground, wind is shaping the recent snowfall.
The week following saw much snow deposited in our area, so it will be neat to see what happens when we revisit the sites on the following weekend. There ought to be a lot of sculpting by the wind and, with the cold temperatures, may- be a new set of ice volcanoes forming at the iec front.
