ABOVE: A wonderful example of Dolichopterus sp. from the Phelps Waterlime Member of the Fiddlers Green Formation (Late Silurian Bertie Group) of Eastern New York State. Many of the ventral structures are present,  including the coxae, metastoma and the median sex appendage. CIURCA 032168-15.

In Ontario, Canada and in New York, Dolichopterus has been found only within the waterlimes of the Late Silurian Bertie Group.  The geographic distribution is wide, specimens being known from the famous Spohn Hill sites south of Herkimer, New York, westward into the Niagara Peninsula of Ontario, Canada.
