Preservation of eurypterid remains in the Late Silurian sequences of New York and adjacent Ontario, Canada.
Carapace of Eurypterus lacustris with attached tergite from the Williamsville Waterlime, Bertie Group of Ontario, Canada. Most of the integument (brown) flaked off. Note the large eurypterid paddle joint superimposed in the upper right with an ostracod shell at the left end and note the other ostracod shells scattered upon the carapace. The surface of the carapace is irregular and the left side is worn or has been eaten away (gastropod?). It is believed that this is another indication of transportation of most eurypterid remains into the area of deposition, usually into windrows of associated remains collected together by currents or storms.
